The lights went out Saturday night and shoppers were evacuated at a popular shopping center in Arlington, creating chaos for shoppers.

The Pentagon City shopping center went black at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday, due to an equipment malfunction underground, according to Dominion Power.

A shopper interviewed by NBC-4 said she heard some screams from startled shoppers after the mall went dark.

The parking garage was reportedly chaotic as shoppers were trying to leave the mall. Store employees were frustrated because they could not pull down security gates to leave the shopping center. NBC-4 reported.

Pentagon City, Dominion Power and Arlington County Fire Department did not post any messages Saturday evening about the incident to their Twitter or Facebook pages.
