Driver Tries to Ram Police Car in Crystal City: Police

Police say the woman drove with her lights off and disregarded traffic controls as she swerved at officers.

ARLINGTON, VA — A woman has been arrested after police say she twice tried to strike a marked police cruiser with her vehicle in Crystal City on Wednesday night.

Police were called to 23rd Street S at around 11:41 p.m. on April 26 to conduct a welfare check on an individual in a vehicle, according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department.

"Upon arrival, the officers observed a vehicle matching the description provided by the reporting party leaving the area," the report states. "The vehicle was traveling without its lights on and the officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop by engaging their emergency equipment."

The driver refused to stop, and then allegedly tried to strike the marked police vehicle. After a vehicle pursuit in which the driver "operated with disregard for traffic control and again attempted to strike police vehicles," the driver was arrested without further incident, the report states.

Police charged 42-year-old Deidre Sullivan with three counts of attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer and one count of felony eluding. She is being held without bond.
