Drunk Driver Runs Over 2 Pedestrians in Clarendon: Police

Police say the woman drove onto the sidewalk and caused one pedestrian to become trapped under her vehicle.

ARLINGTON, VA — Police have arrested a woman on DUI charges after they say she ran over two pedestrians in Clarendon Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to an accident with injuries in the 3100 block of Clarendon Boulevard just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4, according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department. After an investigation, police determined that a vehicle traveling east on Clarendon Boulevard had driven onto the sidewalk as it crossed Washington Boulevard, "striking a pedestrian in the crosswalk and knocking down a light pole," the report states.

The vehicle continued down the sidewalk and struck a second pedestrian, trapping her under the vehicle.

The first victim suffered minor injuries and was sent to Virginia Hospital Center. The second victim was transported to George Washington University Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police charged 49-year-old Shahed Quayum of Arlington with DUI Maiming.
