Drunk Man Charged In Crystal City Robbery: Police Report

Arlington County Police arrested a man for throwing a bottle through the window of a building in Crystal City.

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police arrested a man in connection with a robbery and destruction of property incident Sunday night in Crystal City, according to the daily crime report.

Around 10:35 p.m., officers responded to the report of a robbery in the Crystal City area. Arriving on the scene, they learned that a man approached the victim inside of a commercial building and requested money. When the victim declined, the suspect hit the victim multiple times. After implying that he had a firearm, the suspect fled the scene on foot. As the victim exited the building, the suspect approached him and sprayed him with a fire extinguisher, before fleeing again on foot. The suspect suffered no injuries.

Around 12:53 a.m., an officer observed the suspect in the area of 18th Street S. at Crystal Drive and detained him without incident. During the investigation, police determined the same suspect threw a wine bottle at a window in the 1800 block of S. Bell Street, which caused it to break, according to the report.

ACPD arrested John Smith, 26, of no fixed address, and charged him with destruction of property and drunk in public. This case remains under investigation.
