Facelift Coming for Wendy's, Wells Fargo at Courthouse

Part of area plan includes new 12-story office building and ground floor retail.

A Wendy’s and a Wells Fargo Bank in Arlington’s Courthouse neighborhood will be redeveloped with a LEED Gold 12-story office tower with ground-floor retail, underground parking and a public plaza under a plan approved over the weekend by the Arlington County Board.

The site was designated as a “key redevelopment site” in the 1993 Courthouse Sector Plan Addendum, according to a news release from the county. Here’s more about the redevelopment plan from the release:

The plan for 2025 Clarendon Boulevard includes a rezoning and a General Land use Plan (GLUP) amendment. It provides significant community benefits and uses the Transfer of Development Rights to preserve the Wakefield Manor and Courthouse Manor apartments which were classified as essential on the County’s Historic Resources Inventory.

“This ambitious redevelopment in the heart of Courthouse will achieve much of what the community had hoped for this area,” said Arlington County Board Chair Mary Hynes.

“With the Transfer of Development Rights, we will be able to preserve the historic Wakefield Manor Apartments and their market rate affordable units. We will also see the key intersection of Courthouse Road, Wilson and Clarendon Boulevards greatly improved, and gain many important community benefits.”
