FBI Seeks Suspect in 8 Armed Robberies

Law enforcement agency says suspect has hit eight gas stations in Northern Virginia and DC since mid-November. $5,000 reward offered.

The FBI is seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect in eight armed robberies at area gas stations. Police say the suspect has robbed gas station convenience stores from Nov. 15 through Friday in Fairfax, Arlington, Woodford, Falls Church, Richmond, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

The unknown subject is described by the FBI as a white male with facial hair, between 30 to 40 years old, approximately 6’0” tall with a thin build.

At each robbery, the unknown subject wore a gray half-zip pullover shirt, khaki shorts or jeans and a blue baseball hat with the logo “Jim McKay Maryland Million Day, October 18, 2014 - Laurel Park.”

It appears from a list provided by the FBI that the suspect commits most of his robberies during the lunch hour; all were committed between 11:34 a.m. and 1:34 p.m., except for the latest incident, which took place Friday night in the Falls Church area.

The armed robbery dates and places are:

  • Sunday, Nov. 15 at 11:48 am: Exxon Gas located at 8715 Lee Highway, Fairfax
  • Thursday, Nov. 19 at 11:34 am: Shell Gas located at 5630 North Lee Highway, Arlington
  • Monday, Nov. 23 at 12:05 pm: Valero Gas located at 5516 Mudd Tavern Road, Woodford, VA
  • Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 11:24 am: Mobil Gas located at 10800 Fairfax Boulevard, Fairfax
  • Friday, Nov. 27 at 11:55 am: Exxon Gas located at 3535 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, DC
  • Sunday, Nov. 29 at 12:23 pm: Shell Gas located at 6519 Arlington Boulevard, Falls Church
  • Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 01:34 pm: Shell Gas located at 805 E. Parham Road, Richmond
  • Friday, Dec. 4 at 08:59 pm: BP Gas located at 6701 Wilson Boulevard, Falls Church

During each robbery, the subject purchased an item from the gas station attendant, produced a black handgun and reached over the counter to pull cash from the cash register.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction of this unknown robber.

The FBI’s Washington Field Office and the Arlington County and Fairfax County, Virginia Police Departments are investigating these robberies and request that anyone with information call the FBI at 202-278-2000.
