FVCbank names two L. Burwell Gunn Citizenship Award winners, honors service of staff
FVCbank held its annual shareholder meeting Wednesday with presentation of its fourth annual L. Burwell Gunn Citizenship Award
Fairfax, Virginia – FVCbank held its annual shareholder meeting Wednesday with presentation of its fourth annual L. Burwell Gunn Citizenship Award to two organizations that work to make the community better and honored seven employees for service that spans the life of the Bank.
Celebrating its 10th year, marking FVCbank’s strongest year to date, FVCbank presented the L. Burwell Gunn Citizenship Award to Volunteer Fairfax, and Cornerstones Inc., of Reston, Virginia, as part of the Bank’s commitment to serving the people of the area.
Adding to the celebration this year, the Bank also honored the staff with 10 years of service, having been with the Bank since its inception: B. Todd Dempsey, Anna Keefe, Steffany Watson, Brooke Johnson, Farideh Mullafiroze, Patricia Ferrick and David Pijor.

“FVCbank made a commitment to help businesses and communities prosper and has remained steadfast over the last decade,” said FVCbank Chairman, President and CEO David Pijor. “Cornerstones works to assist all those in need to help improve their lives and serves as a great asset to Fairfax County.”
Cornerstones provides food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare and other human services to people in the community.

“We’re thankful for the contribution from FVCbank, which will help us improve the lives of others in our community,” said Cornerstones CEO Kerrie Wilson, who is known as a “tireless advocate for positive change” to help strengthen families and communities. “Through the support of dedicated partners, like FVCbank, our efforts have successfully reduced homelessness in the community by 47 percent since 2008.”
FVCbank also presented the award to Volunteer Fairfax whose mission for the past 40 years is to match the skills and interests of volunteers and donors to the needs of local nonprofit organizations.
“Being a good citizen means taking an active role in the community and we are proud to support Volunteer Fairfax help people connect with opportunities,” Pijor said. “The passion for community extends beyond the walls of our bank, which is why so many of our FVCbank staff and board members serve as volunteers throughout our communities.”
“The people of Fairfax County continue to show how selfless and giving they are of their time and resources to others in the community and we’re thankful FVCbank for its support,” said Volunteer Fairfax CEO Elise Neil Bengtson, who joined the organization in 2015.
Previous recipients of the L. Burwell Gunn Citizenship Award include the Ronald McDonald House, FACETS and the Arlington Soccer League.
