Hamster, Family Safely Escape Maywood House Fire

Arlington County firefighters responded early Wednesday morning to the report of a house fire in the Maywood neighborhood.

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County firefighters extinguished and early morning fire in the Maywood area, according to posts on ACFD's Twitter account. No injuries were reported.

Units were dispatched on Wednesday, March 18, around 4 a.m. to the report of a structure fire in the 3200 block of 23rd St. North. Arriving on the scene, they found fire in the front of the house.

"They extinguished the fire on the front of the house, while other crews made entry and found entry in the attic," said Capt. Justin Tirelli, ACFD spokesman.

About 30 firefighter battled the blaze, which they were able to extinguish quickly, according to Tirelli. All four occupants and a hamster escaped without injury.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and the case remains under investigation
