Huge Outpouring of Support for Arlington Family that Lost Home in a Fire
Nearly $14,000 has been raised for a local family after a New Year's Day fire destroyed their home in the Nauck neighborhood.

ARLINGTON, VA — It was a rough start to 2017 for one area family, but Arlington residents are doing everything they can to get them back on their feet. The community has pitched in nearly $14,000 for a family that lost their home and their dog in a New Year's Day fire in the Nauck neighborhood of Arlington, eclipsing the original goal of $10,000 on GoFundMe.
A total of 260 people have contributing to the fund over the past seven days, raising $13,892 as of Tuesday morning. The fire happened at a duplex in the 2400 block of S. Nelson Street.
"On New Years Day, Mayra, her mother and her two younger sisters came home from church to their house in flames," the GoFundMe page states. "Fortunately no one was injured but they faced the devastating loss of their beloved puppy Jessie, who was found dead underneath Mayra's bed. Mayra and her family lost nearly everything they owned.
