ARLINGTON, VA — A massive line of hundreds of people formed at one polling location in Pentagon City before polls even opened at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, and that appeared to match a trend throughout the county on Election Day.
The photos above show the line just as polls opened at the James at Riverhouse apartment building at 1111 Army Navy Drive. A poll worker there estimated that the line may have included as many as 450 people in a precinct with fewer than 3,000 registered voters. In addition, he estimated about 400 voters had already cast their ballots absentee.

Reports have started filtering in around the county that similar lines have been seen at other polling locations.
The turnout in Arlington is likely to benefit Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, as the county voted 69-29 percent for Barack Obama over Mitt Romney in 2012. Clinton will need strong turnout from counties like Arlington if she wants to win Virginia's 13 electoral votes, which could prove vital in a close election.
