I-66 Westbound to be Completely Shut Down Thursday in Arlington

VDOT will be closing off the road for 20 minutes at a time late at night for tolling construction.

ARLINGTON, VA — If you're thinking about driving on westbound Interstate 66 in Arlington after 9:30 p.m. on Thursday night, just don't. The highway will be completely shut down in that direction for 20 minutes at a time throughout the night.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is warning commuters that they will shut down the right lane of westbound I-66 starting at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, and then completely shut down the highway for 20 minutes at a time between midnight and 4 a.m., with the right lane to reopen by 5 a.m.

The closures are necessary in order for VDOT workers to have ample space for tolling construction.

Virginia State Police will stop and hold westbound traffic ahead of the construction activity, and release the traffic each time the 20-minute operations are completed.

The closures will occur near mile marker 72 between Lee Highway and Glebe Road.
