Labor Day 2018 In Arlington: What's Open, What's Closed
It's the unofficial start of fall. Here's what to expect as far as what will be closed in the area on Labor Day.

ARLINGTON, VA -- Schools are opening, you're not supposed to wear white anymore, and fall is just around the corner: it must be Labor Day.
Labor Day is a federal holiday always celebrated on the first Monday in September. It is intended to honor the American labor movement and the contributions workers have made to theis country. Labor Day was started in the late 19th century, promoted by unions which organized the first parade in New York City.
Labor Day means lots of closures in our area, but some places will be open. Here's what you can expect for Arlington:

Courts: Closed
Schools: Closed

DMV: Closed
Libraries: Closed
Parks & Rec: All offices and leagues closed, but the park grounds are open. Spraygrounds will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Parking: Not enforced
Detention center visiting: Holiday hours, 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Pools: Yorktown High's pool is closed, but Wakefield (12-6 p.m.) and Washington-Lee (6 a.m.-4 p.m.) will be open.
Transportation:
ART — ART 41, 45, 51, 55 and 87 will operate on Sunday schedules. All other ART routes will not operate.
STAR – See the STAR holiday schedule. The STAR Call Center will be closed and standing order rides will be canceled. Please call beforehand to request a ride for the holiday or the day after.
Trash & Recycling: Regular schedule (call center closed)
Treasurer's office: Closed
