Live VA Primary Election Results 2026 For Arlington: VA 8, Senate, Board

ARLINGTON, VA — Polls have officially closed across Virginia and election officials are tabulating ballots cast in Tuesday's primary election.

As of 7:38 p.m., The Associated Press had called the following races:

• Donald Beyer wins Democratic nomination for U.S. House in Virginia's 8th Congressional District.
• Bert Mizusawa wins Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Virginia.

In Arlington, Democratic Rep. Don Beyer is facing a primary challenge in VA 8. Voters will choose which Democrat will challenge Republican Tony Sabio in the general election for that district, and which Republican will face incumbent Senator Mark Warner.

In addition, Arlington County Board Member Matt Ferranti is facing a reelection challenge from two-Democrats — James DeVita and Julie Farnam.

Results from races across the state are expected to be reported throughout the evening. Some contests are likely to be decided quickly, while others could take longer to call.

Democratic primary

Three candidates are running the open Arlington County Board seat in the Democratic primary. The three candidates are:

• Matthew D. “Matt”de Ferranti*
• Julie Farnam

Senate Republican Primary

Voters can choose from among 3 candidates running to represent the Republican Party in the U.S. Senate race in November. Those candidates are:

On the Democratic side, incumbent Sen. Mark Warner has already secured his party's nomination.

By a slim margin, Virginians voted in April to approve a referendum that allowed for a special redistricting process. The referendum was sparked by a partisan redistricting process kicked off by Texas and picked up by other largely Republican states, before some Democratic states joined. However, after a bitter fight and a narrow victory for Democrats, who largely favored redistricting, the Supreme Court of Virginia voided the referendum results on procedural grounds, leaving the state's districts unchanged.

On the Democratic side, incumbent Senator Mark Warner has already secured his party's nomination.

In Virginia's eighth district, incumbent Don Beyer is facing four challengers, three of whom are former federal workers who were either laid off due to Trump administration budget cuts or who say they resigned in protest at Trump policies. As of the most recent filing, Beyer held a considerable fundraising lead in the field.

Republican Tony Sabio, who will face the Democratic Primary victor, lags behind every other candidate in fundraising. He faces long odds in the effort to unseat Beyer. In the three-way Arlington County Board race, incumbent Matt de Ferranti leads his Democratic challengers James DeVita and Julie Farnam in fundraising.
