Loaded Handgun In Carry-On Bag Detected At Reagan National Airport

A Prince George's County, Maryland, man was stopped from bringing a loaded handgun onto his flight Thursday morning at Reagan National.

ARLINGTON, VA — A Transportation Security Administration officer at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington stopped a Prince George’s County, Maryland, man from bringing a loaded handgun onto his flight Thursday morning.

It was the 11th gun detected by TSA officers at the airport so far this year, according to the agency.

The .45 caliber gun was loaded with 10 bullets and was detected by an X-ray machine as the Capitol Heights, Maryland, man was entering the security checkpoint with his carry-on items.

TSA officials notified the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority police, who confiscated the gun and cited the man on a weapons charge.

Passengers are permitted to travel with firearms only in checked baggage if they are properly packaged and declared at their airline ticket counter.
