Man Beats Woman With a Belt, Steals Her Moped: Police

Police arrested a man after an argument with a woman turned violent.

A man is in jail on numerous charges after police say he beat a woman with a belt and then stole her moped in a neighborhood near Shirlington. Police arrested 46-year-old Gregory Donnell Graham on charges of assault and battery, grand larceny (auto) and hit and run after getting into an argument with the woman and then turning violent.

Police were dispatched to the 2400 block of S. Shirlington Road in the Nauck neighborhood of Arlington at around 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 4 after receiving a report of a fight -- and what they found was a lot more than that, according to the police report.

"The investigation revealed that the victim and suspect got into an argument that escalated into a physical fight," the report states. "During the fight, the male suspect took off his belt and began hitting the female victim with it. The victim broke a beer bottle and slashed the victim's hand. The suspect then stole the victim's moped that was parked and fled."
