Man Tries to Strangle Arlington Cop; Two People Tased: Police
Police say after brutally fighting each other over the weekend, two men turned on the police officers who tried to break it up.

ARLINGTON, VA — Two men have been arrested on a litany of charges after police say they fought with officers who tried to stop them from fighting over the weekend, and both of them had to be tased.
Police were called to the 1000 block of N. Randolph Street just before 9 p.m. on Sunday to a report of a fight in progress. They located 31-year-old Marcus Reid and 27-year-old Steven Goodwine Jr., both of Arlington, and tried to stop them from fighting, but they ignored the officer's commands, according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department.
"As the officer was attempting to detain Mr. Goodwine, Mr. Reid advanced and struck the officer, pushing him to the ground," the report states. "When Mr. Reid advanced towards the officer a second time, the officer deployed his taser."

At some point, more officers arrived and tried to put handcuffs on Reid, who "continued to forcefully resist while attempting to stand," the report states.
Once again, an officer deployed the taser, and Reid was finally taken into custody.

Officers then responded to Goodwine's location after he attempted to flee the scene, and like Reid, he refused to go down without a fight, police say.
"Officers ordered the subject to stop and get on the ground," the report states. "When he refused, officers went hands on in an attempt to detain the subject. Mr. Goodwine struggled with the officer and was able to place him in a stranglehold. The officer was able to free himself, deploy his taser and the subject was taken into custody without further incident."
Neither Reid nor Goodwine had any serious injuries.
Police believe the incident started when Goodwine was ejected from a restaurant and then became aggressive with the door staff, prompting Reid to intervene.
Reid faces charges of assault and battery on police, obstruction of justice and drunk in public. Goodwine faces all of those charges, as well as strangulation and disorderly conduct.
They are being held in the Arlington County Detention Facility without bond.
