Funeral Procession Visits Iwo Jima Memorial As Symbolic Gesture For Marine Killed In Kabul
Arlington public safety personnel escorted the procession carrying a U.S. Marine killed in a Kabul bombing around the Iwo Jima Memorial.

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police acted as escorts Monday for the procession carrying the body of U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Darin T. Hoover, who was killed in action in Kabul, according to a post on the department's official Twitter account.
ACPD motor officers escorted Hoover's body around the Iwo Jima Memorial, as other public safety agencies honored his sacrifice.
Hoover was one of the 11 Marines killed, along with one Army soldier and one Navy sailor, during the Aug. 26 suicide bombing at Afghanistan's Kabul airport, according to the Associated Press.

The bombing killed more than 160 Afghans and injured 18 other U.S. service members, in what U.S. officials called the most lethal day for American forces in Afghanistan since 2011.
Darin Hoover said his 31-year-old son, who had served in the Marines for 11 years, would always be remembered as a hero who died serving others, according to the AP.
