Maryland Man Charged With Assaulting Police Officers

Arlington County Police arrested a Suitland, Maryland man Saturday morning for trespassing and assaulting officers at an Arlington hotel.

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police arrested a Maryland man Saturday in connection with a trespassing incident and assaults of police officers at a hotel in the Cherrydale area, according to the daily crime report.

Officers were dispatched around 5:46 a.m., for the report of trespassing at a hotel in the 3300 block of Lee Highway. Officers had been dispatched twice previously to the address for the report of an individual acting disorderly in the lobby area. On the first call, officers instructed the suspect to return to his room and stop causing disturbances in the common areas of the hotel. On the second call, which took place around 5:12 a.m., officers issued a banning notice and escorted the suspect off of the premises. With the third call, officers arrested the suspect after they learned he had reentered the hotel. As they escorted the suspect from the building, police say he spit on an officer and kicked two others. They also said that while the suspect was waiting to be evaluated by medical personnel, he bit a third officer. None of the officers were injured.

ACPD arrested Jonathan Knell, 27, of Suitland, Maryland, and charged him with three counts of assault and battery on law enforcement, trespassing, and drunk in public. He is being held without bond.
