ARLINGTON, VA -- Ah, Memorial Day. The official unofficial start of summer. It's the time of year when we remember Americans who have made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as take some time to enjoy our loved ones with a cookout or just a quiet day off.

But with Memorial Day comes the annual question of: just what exactly is open on this holiday, and what is going to be closed in the Arlington area?

Transportation
  • ART — ART 41, 45, 51, 55 and 87 will operate on Sunday schedules. All other ART routes will not operate.
  • STAR – The STAR Call Center will be closed on Monday, May 28, and standing order rides will be canceled. The call center will be open on Sunday, May 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please call beforehand to request a trip for May 28 or 29.
Trash Pickup & Recycling
  • Trash & Recycling – Regular schedule
  • Special Collection (Brush, Metal, E-waste) & Cart Services – Regular schedule
  • Mulch Delivery – No service
  • Leaf & Brush collection – No service
  • Call Center – Closed
  • HHM Facility and ECRC – Closed
Treasurer’s Office Closed. Online payments available.

Arlington County Government offices and facilities are closed on all Federal holidays except Columbus Day.

Parking

  • Parking meters are not enforced on:
    • Federal holidays, including Columbus Day
    • County holidays (dates listed below)
  • All other violations will be enforced.
  • Some parking restrictions may apply during special events such as the Independence Day celebration at Long Bridge Park.

  • Nov. 22 & 23 – Thanksgiving
  • Dec. 25 – Christmas
