Need One More Summer Event? The Arlington County Fair is Going on Right Now

The fair kicked off Wednesday and will last through this Sunday, Aug. 21.

ARLINGTON, VA — Summer is winding down and school's about to start, but if you want one last hurrah with the whole family before everything gets back into gear, you can't do much better than the Arlington County Fair this week.

The fair actually kicked off Wednesday and will continue through Sunday, Aug. 21 at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center, which is located just off Arlington Boulevard at 3501 2nd Street South.

The theme of this year's fair is "Groovy Since 1977," which commemorates the county's very first fair. Activities include pony rides, local performers, carnival rides, pig races, games and, of course, plenty of food.

There will also be contests with prizes, including the Disco Ball Contest challenging visitors to spot a disco ball hidden at a vendor's booth, and a Photo of the Day Contest, which invites attendees to submit your favorite photographs for a chance to receive four ride tickets and a fair t-shirt.

Beware, however: there's no public parking at the fair, so you'll have to use either private transport services like Uber, public transit or shuttle services around the county to get there. Full details to plan your trip are here.
