VIRGINIA/WASHINGTON, DC — Thunderstorms could lead to heavy downpours in parts of Northern Virginia and Washington on Monday, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Forecast.
The heaviest rain and the best chance of thunderstorms are Monday afternoon. The weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook Monday for the tidal Potomac River and Interstate 95 corridor in Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Temperatures Monday and Tuesday will be around 10 degrees lower compared to the high temperatures over the weekend, AccuWeather said. In the Washington area, temperatures will likely reach 85 degrees on Monday and 81 on Tuesday.

"The cold front passing through the Northeast may bring showers and storms to the coast on Monday, but usher in a cooler air mass behind it. As a result, the ongoing stretch of hot weather will immediately come to an end," AccuWeather meteorologist Andrew Kienzle said Monday.
Although Monday's thunderstorms weren't expected to be severe, forecasters said the storms may produce brief downpours.

Looking ahead, the next storm system may reach the Washington area Saturday. As of now, though, Sunday looked to be the most unsettled day of the upcoming weekend, with scattered storms and temperatures, WJLA reported.
