NoVA, DC Weather: Heat Climbs Over Sunny Memorial Day Weekend

A few lingering clouds on Saturday will give way to sunshine most of the weekend in the NoVA, DC area as the heat returns by Memorial Day.

WASHINGTON, DC — After storms and a possible tornado in Virginia on Friday, the DC region will see sunshine most of the weekend and the heat returns by Memorial Day.

High temperatures will climb each day, from the upper 70s on Saturday to the low 90s on Monday, the National Weather Service said.

Thunderstorms prompted multiple National Weather Service tornado watches in portions of Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland on Friday morning, Accuweather said.

A potential tornado was reported a few miles from Coatesville in Hanover County, Virginia, shortly before 6:45 p.m. EDT, according to the National Weather Service.

"Sunshine returns just when we need it most. And as far as the unofficial start of summer goes, it might be hard to ask for a lot better than this," said the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang. "Today and tomorrow are mild before the heat cranks up on Monday. Find a pool or some shade and stay hydrated. The season’s just getting started!"
