GW Parkway Refresh: Major Resurfacing Project Begins Next Week

Resurfacing project between Spout Run and Alexandria are expected to trigger lane shifts, weekday rush-hour changes through mid-June.

ARLINGTON, VA — The National Park Service will begin lane closures the week of March 23 to resurface sections of the George Washington Memorial Parkway between Spout Run Parkway and Interstate 395, and between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and First Street in Alexandria.

The project aims to repair road surfaces that have worn down over time. According to the NPS, the work will prevent further damage, support safer travel, and provide a smoother ride. Crews plan to remove the top layer of asphalt in both directions before repaving.

Construction is expected to run through mid-June, depending on the weather. Crews will work during the day, overnight, and on weekends.
