Patriots Prevail for 10th Straight Win

Yorktown wins comfortably in a tale of two halves.

The Yorktown Patriots moved to 10-4, 6-0 in the National District, with a 42-26 victory over J.E.B. Stuart.  In a game in which points were tough to come by, Daniel Pietropaoli led the Patriots with 13 and Kevin Bailey scored 11.  Kevin’s brother Kyle and Jack Earley both finished with seven, and Nick Yore added four to round out the scoring for Yorktown.

The lop-sided score line was not at all indicative of what took place in the first half, as both teams seemed to play to a stalemate.  Yorktown’s 2-3 zone defense, as it has done all year, frustrated the Stuart offense into bad shots.  However the Patriots couldn’t get anything going on offense either, as the teams went into halftime tied at 15.  It was the lowest halftime point total for the Patriots all season.

However, any concerns this may have created for the Yorktown faithful soon disappeared, as the Patriots were able to swiftly regain control of the game in the third quarter and run away with the comfortable victory.  They outscored the Raiders in the second half 27-11 en route to 16 point victory.

With Wakefield upsetting Edison and Hayfield shocking Mount Vernon last night, the Patriots now have 2-game lead in the district, and look to be well on their way to claiming the top seed going into the playoffs.  They will look to remain undefeated in a tough stretch of games against Edison at home Tuesday, then two games against Arlington rivals Wakefield Friday night, and Washington-Lee the following Tuesday.
