Pentagon City Carjacking Suspect Arrested In Maryland: Police

Arlington Police say a person of interest in connection with a series of armed robberies and carjackings in Pentagon City has been arrested.

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police report that a person of interest has been arrested in connection with a series of carjackings that occurred earlier this year in Pentagon City, according to a release. Police arrested the individual in Maryland and he is expected to face charges for the armed robbery incidents in Arlington.

ACPD says the person of interest is connected to series of armed robberies and carjackings that occurred in January and February in the Pentagon City area. ACPD is investigating the cases as if they are all linked:

  • On Sunday, Jan. 19, around 5:25 p.m., a citizen flagged down an officer on patrol in the 800 block of Army Navy Drive. The citizen told the officer that between 5:05 p.m. and 5:20 p.m., she was sitting in her parked vehicle when an unknown individual pointed a firearm at her and demanded her cellphone. He then fled the scene on foot with her phone.
  • On Thursday, Jan. 23, at about 1:50 p.m., officers responded to the report of an armed robbery in the 1100 block of S. Hayes Street. Arriving on the scene, they learned that an unknown suspect approached the male victim as he exited his parked car. The suspect pointed a firearm, demanded the keys and drove away in the victim's vehicle.
  • On Thursday, Jan. 30, around 10:15 p.m., a suspect stole a gray Toyota Corolla in to the 800 block of Army Navy Drive.
  • On Tuesday, Feb. 4, around 11:39 p.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of S. Joyce Street. Officers learned that 20 minutes earlier the victim was approached by a suspect as he was exiting his vehicle. The suspect pointed a firearm, demanded the victim's keys and personal belongings, and then fled the scene in the victim's vehicle.
  • On Friday Feb. 21, around 10:25 p.m., a victim flagged down an ACPD officer, who was on a proactive patrol inside a garage located at 1100 block of S. Hayes St. The victim told the officer he had been looking at his cellphone while sitting inside his parked vehicle when someone knocked on his window. An unknown male was pointing a firearm at him. After exiting the car, the victim was assaulted by the suspect. When the victim screamed, the suspect left the scene on foot.
  • On Friday, Feb 21, around 10:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to a garage in the 900 block of Army Navy Drive for the report of a carjacking. Arriving on the scene, officers learned the victim encountered the suspect, who pointed a gun at him and demanded his keys. The suspect drove away with the victim's black Honda Civic.

ACPD detectives are continuing to work on this active criminal investigation with other jurisdictions in the region, including Prince George’s County Police, Metropolitan Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Members of the public are encouraged to continue reporting suspicious activity and using the following safety tips when parking in a garage:

  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Park in well-lit areas, high traffic areas
  • Limit your use of devices that may distract you, such as cell phones and head phones
  • Don't leave items unattended in vehicles
  • If you see something suspicious, report to the Emergency Communications Center at 703-558-2222 or 9-1-1 in an emergency
