Police: 69-Year-Old Woman Dead After Fire Breaks Out

Authorities still aren't certain what resulted in the woman's death, but ruled out an explosion.

Authorities have ruled out an explosion in the death of a 69-year-old woman at a house in Arlington yesterday, but they believe a fire broke out at the residence.

The woman's son found her dead inside a house in the 4900 block of 18th Street N shortly before 3 p.m. and alerted authorities, telling them that two of the stove burners were on and that there could have been some sort of explosion. Arlington County Police spokesperson Ashley Savage said that "an explosion has been ruled out," although it appears that a fire broke out in the home at some point.

Still, police aren't ready to declare what happened to the unidentified woman, and are waiting on the medical examiner to determine the cause of death. As a result, the investigation remains ongoing.
