Police: Armed Robbery and Carjacking Suspect Apprehended Tuesday
Suspect tried to escape in delivery truck at 7-Eleven, but was unable to disengage air brake, police say.

The Arlington County Police Department has taken into custody and charged Antonius Sallis, 33, of no fixed address, with two counts of armed robbery, malicious wounding, abduction, carjacking and felon in possession of a firearm following an incident which occurred at the 7-Eleven in the 2700 block of Washington Boulevard early Tuesday, according to a news release from police.

The suspect was denied bond and is currently being held in the Arlington County Detention Facility.
Here’s what happened, according to police: At 2:13 a.m. Tuesday, a delivery truck driver was making his deliveries at the 7-Eleven convenience store, when the lone suspect, later identified as Sallis, entered the store and held a knife to the throat of one of the sales clerks, police said. The suspect was also armed with a handgun in his other hand, they noted. The suspect demanded Newport cigarettes and cash from the registers, according to police. The sales clerk sustained a laceration to his neck, ACPD said.

As the suspect was preparing to flee the scene, he demanded the wallet from the delivery truck driver and forced him to start the truck, according to police. The suspect then attempted to utilize the truck as a getaway vehicle; however he was unable to disengage the air brake, police said. The suspect then fled the scene west through the Lyon Park and Ashton Heights neighborhoods before he was apprehended by responding officers in the area of N. Monroe Street and 3rd Street N.
The firearm and additional items of evidence were located by canvassing officers in the 300 block of N. Fillmore Street.
