Police Arrest Man Suspected in Knife Attack Thanks to Anonymous Tip

Police said the victim needed surgery after getting slashed across the face last summer near Gunston Middle School.

Arlington County Police have arrested a man suspected of slashing a person in the face with a pocket knife after an argument last summer -- and they were able to track him down because of a tip on their "Crime Solvers" hotline.

The victim was cut up so bad that he had to be sent to George Washington Hospital for surgery after the incident, which happened June 19, 2015, at around 8:23 p.m. in the 2700 block of S. Lang Street, according to a police statement. That would place it in the area of Gunston Middle School in South Arlington.

Ramon Calderon, 24, of Alexandria faces a charge of malicious wounding after police say he got into an argument with the victim, brandished a pocket knife and slashed the victim deeply across the face.

Detectives got a warrant for Calderon's arrest, but he fled the area and was able to avoid an arrest until someone anonymously tipped police through Arlington County Crime Solvers, providing "critical information leading to the apprehension of the suspect," the statement noted.

On April 14, Tactical Unit officers, with the assistance of the Alexandria Police Department, were able to take Calderon into custody without incident.
