Police Bust Arlington Woman in Huge Welfare Fraud Scheme

Authorities accuse her of getting $100,000 worth of welfare checks over more than six years.

ARLINGTON, VA — Police in Arlington have just arrested someone accused of defrauding the government of a huge amount of money in welfare checks over six years.

Police arrested 38-year-old Helen Agbapuruonwu of Arlington in the 2100 block of Washington Boulevard on charges of felony welfare fraud and document forgery.

"The subject fraudulently obtained public assistance in excess of $100,000 under false pretenses," according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department.

She had been getting welfare checks fraudulently between April 1, 2010 and Aug. 1, 2016, the report states.
