Local and federal investigators believe the same man tried to rob two banks, each in a grocery store, within a half-hour Monday morning.
The first attempted robbery took place at 11:08 a.m. at the Suntrust Bank inside of the Safeway at 3713 Lee Highway.
Twenty minutes later, investigators say the same individual tried to rob the PNC Bank inside of the Giant at 2901 S. Glebe Road.

"On both occasions, the subject entered the bank and approached a teller with a hand written note demanding money and implying he had a weapon," according to an Arlington County Police Department news release.
The man ran away each time without receiving money, the release states.

Local police and investigators with the FBI's Washington Field Office are asking for the public's help in identifying the man, who was caught on surveillance video at both locations.
The man is described as in his late 40s or early 50s with a medium build. He was wearing a striped polo shirt underneath a dark-colored jacket with blue jeans and a Washington Nationals baseball hat at the time of the incidents.
