Popular App Company Ditches DC for Arlington, Will Bring 65 Jobs

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced a $10 million investment by Basket Savings.

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe has successfully coaxed software company Basket Savings to uproot itself from the District and plant itself in Arlington County, investing $10 million and potentially bringing in 65 above-average new jobs.

Basket Savings is the creator of an app that allows consumers to “make educated decisions when shopping for groceries and every day goods, helping them know the price of everything, everywhere,” according to a statement from the governor. Various reports have them moving to 1220 N. Fillmore St. near the Clarendon Metro.

“The Commonwealth is thrilled to welcome Basket to its roster of world-class companies that choose Virginia, boosting our position as a next generation technology leader,” McAuliffe said in a statement. “Arlington County has become a hub for technology, attracting entrepreneurial businesses that benefit from the region’s robust, high-tech workforce and Virginia’s top-notch IT infrastructure.”
