Retail Space Filling Up Fast At Amazon's HQ2 In Arlington

Another group of locally owned business signed leases to fill available retail space at Amazon's HQ2 campus in National Landing.

ARLINGTON, VA — Four more locally owned businesses signed leases to fill retail space in the middle of Amazon’s HQ2 campuses in National Landing.

The latest group of businesses to commit to coming to National Landing “underscores Amazon's commitment to investing locally and enriching the Arlington community as it expands,” Amazon announced Tuesday.

The four new local businesses — Celebree School of National Landing, Good Company Doughnuts & Cafe, Glo30 and Peruvian Brothers — signed leases for space at Metropolitan Park, the first phase of new HQ2 construction in Pentagon City. Amazon’s Metropolitan Park and HQ2’s phase two PenPlace will have at least 140,000 square feet of retail space.

One of the businesses, Good Company Doughnuts & Cafe, will occupy 2,000 square feet at Metropolitan Park when it opens in 2023. Good Company serves doughnuts, coffee and many other food dishes.

“We have been rooted in the Arlington community since day one. Even before the opportunity to open at Met Park came about, we had already worked with Amazon on several charitable projects, including meal giveaways, local races, and more,” co-owner Melissa Kachadoorian said.

Peruvian Brothers operates food trucks, restaurants and a catering business. It will open a 2,000-square-foot restaurant at Metropolitan Park in 2023. The restaurant will serve authentic “Comida Criolla,” Peruvian food with Andean, Spanish, African and Asian influences.

“We are fortunate to have found success in many different channels so far, so when the opportunity arose to open at Met Park, we knew this was the next big step for Peruvian Brothers,” co-owner Giuseppe Lanzone said.

Glo30, a membership-based facial spa, was founded by Dr. Arleen Lamba on the principle of taking care of your skin on a routine basis, in the same way people take care of other areas of life. Already with locations in Shaw, The Wharf and Bethesda, Metropolitan Park will be Glo30's fourth location. The spa will occupy 1,000 square feet at Met Park.

Joining the three other businesses at Met Park will be Celebree School of National Landing, a daycare and child learning center.

“Partnering with Amazon will allow us to reach a larger subset of the region and provide more quality early childhood education to more families,” Celebree School of National Landing co-owner Kate Mulcahy said. “The spotlight that Amazon’s presence puts on the community is so valuable, and the new residents it will attract will strengthen the fibers of the community.”

Last month, Amazon announced that several other local shops and restaurants, including Conte's Bike Shop, HUSTLE fitness studio, South Block juice bar and Social Burger, will be opening in 2023 when Metropolitan Park opens at Amazon's HQ2. They will be joining District Dogs and RAKO Coffee.

Amazon said it is hoping to create a food, dining, and retail district at Met Park, with an emphasis on supporting women-owned and minority-owned small businesses.
