ARLINGTON, VA — Metrorail service between Foggy Bottom and the Pentagon stations remains suspended Thursday morning due to a partial derailment of a train as it was nearing the Arlington Cemetery Station Tuesday evening.

Metro is providing free shuttle bus service between the Rosslyn, Arlington Cemetery and Pentagon stations on Thursday to allow police to continue investigating the cause of Tuesday's derailment.

Riders are encouraged on Thursday to take the Blue/Yellow Line at L'Enfant Plaza in Washington, D.C. in order to continue their trip south toward Alexandria. The Blue Line is only running between the Franconia-Springfield and the Mount Vernon Square stations.

Riders taking the Orange and Silver lines on Wednesday can also expect some delays when traveling between Clarendon and Foggy Bottom due to a track problem in Rosslyn. Orange and Silver line trains will be single-tracking between those two stations.

Around 4:53 p.m. on Tuesday, Metro's Rail Operational Control Center received a report about the derailment, a WMATA spokesman told The Washington Post. One of the newer 7,000-series trains had slipped partway off the tracks. The Post reported that between 300 and 400 people were on the train at the time of the incident.

Arlington County Fire and EMS units and police department personal reported to the scene of a single-track derailment at the cemetery station. No injuries were reported.
