Snowstorm Brings Down Power Line, Causes Sparks To Fly: VIDEO

Tuesday's winter storm brought down a tree and power line in Shirlington, which caused some sparks to fly.

ARLINGTON, VA -- Arlington County emergency personnel responded to the report of a downed power line due to the winter storm that passed through the region on Tuesday evening.

Arlington County Police were dispatched Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 3:40 p.m. to the report of a traffic complaint for downed wires in the Shirlington area, according to ACPD public information officer Ashley Savage.

Officers posted a video from the scene on the official ACPD Twitter account. The video captured sparks flying from the downed power line at S. Chesterfield Road and King Street.

In an unrelated incident, Dominion Power repair crews were out on Wednesday, Jan. 8, for a planned repair of an overhead old wire and transformer at S. George Mason Drive and 5th Street S., according to the Dominion Power website. Police closed the road to traffic in both directions for part of the morning commute.

Fourteen customers in the S. George Mason Drive area are without power, according to Peggy Fox, a public information officer with Dominion Power. Power is expected to be restored by 3 p.m.

Arlington residents are warned to stay away from downed trees and power lines. To report hazardous situations, they should contact the Emergency Communications Center at 703-558-2222 or 9-1-1.
