Sugar Shack Donuts to Open This Week in Arlington

Arlington County public servants with ID will receive a free donut on opening day.

ARLINGTON, VA - Doors will open officially at 8 a.m. at Sugar Shack Donuts & Coffee on Saturday, Feb. 20 at its new location at 3400 Columbia Pike in Arlington.

“We are delighted to be on the Pike,” said Rob Krupicka, Sugar Shack Donuts & Coffee owner and former city and state public servant. “The Columbia Pike community has been really amazing and supportive and we are excited about serving them. Neighbors will see that the walls of the new store will be covered with pictures of people from the Pike and we are so looking forward to partnering with the community and local food stores to create some unique donut flavors.”

Mark Buchholz is a longtime Columbia Pike advocate, Board member at the nearby Arlington Free Clinic and a new Sugar Shack investor. He says he sees real value in bringing Sugar Shack to the Pike. “It’s a business model focused on community, community history, and the people they serve,” he said. “For those of us invested in the success of the Pike for the long term, this is significant.”

The popular Richmond franchise opened its Alexandria shop a year ago and business is booming. “Our customers really appreciate the enormous variety and the fact we use natural ingredients as much as possible,” Krupicka said. “Our goal is truly to create an experience for every customer. I think that shows.”

And show it will, according to the business; on Saturday, All Arlington County public servants – fire fighter, police officer, schoolteacher, or government employee – need only show their ID and receive a free donut on opening day.
