Surge No. 4 Strikes Arlington Tuesday; Here's What to Expect [VIDEO]

Fresh on the heals of Surge 3, Arlington commuters will be enduring another line segment shutdown.

There's no rest for the weary in Arlington: Surge No. 3 may be over, but you still have another week before the Yellow and Blue lines start to look normal again.

Last week's Surge -- part of Metro's Safetrack plan to fix chronic problems throughout the rail system -- shut down the line segment between Reagan National Airport and Braddock Road. This week, the line segment shutdown moves one stop up the Blue and Yellow lines: now, you won't be able to get from Reagan National Airport to Pentagon City.

Surge 4 begins Tuesday, July 12 and lasts until Monday, July 18.

What does this mean if you live south of National Airport? It means you'll have to catch a shuttle bus to get to Metro stations north of that stop -- and there will be long lines for those buses if last week is any indication.

Blue and Yellow line trains will be running every 12 minutes in both directions during the Surge, according to Metro. "Allow extra time traveling to/from Reagan National Airport," the agency warns.

Trains will be extremely crowded during this time, especially during rush hour, and the heaviest wait times will be from L'Enfant Plaza in D.C. all the way down to the very ends of the Blue and Yellow lines.

Metro recommends you just stay home rather than try to use their service, noting last week that there was a 70 percent drop in Metro riders during last week's surge.
