Suspect in Life-Threatening Condition After Jumping Off Shirlington Road Bridge

A Fort Washington, Md. man is in life-threatening condition at George Washington University Hospital after jumping off an Arlington bridge Tuesday night while being pursued by police, according to Arlington County Police.

The man, 37, was driving recklessly just after 11 p.m. Tuesday down I-395 South, according to police. When police attempted to pull him over, he took the Glebe Road exit and got out of his car near the Shirlington Exxon station, at 2316 S. Shirlington Road.

An officer asked him to return to his car but the man told him “You’re going to have to shoot me,” and ran and jumped off of the Shirlington Road Bridge, according to Arlington Police.

The man landed on rocks 20 feet below; police say alcohol was a factor.
