More than 100 injured veterans and their supporters mounted recumbents, tandems, and traditional road bikes on Sunday, September 11, setting out on a four-day journey from Arlington, Virginia to the 9/11 Memorial in New York City.

The UnitedHealthcare "Ride 2 Recovery 9/11 Challenge" is a 330-mile, rehabilitative ride that takes veterans through Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, stopping at historical landmarks along the way, including Valley Forge and the Garden of Reflection, concluding with a wreath-laying ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial.

Retired Arlington, VA fire chief Robert Gray spoke at the beginning of the ride. Gray was among the firefighters who helped to put out the Pentagon fire on 9/11.

Over 100 veterans set out from Arlington, VA to New York City, where they will visit the 9/11 Memorial.
