ARLINGTON, VA — People traveling in the area of the Air Force Memorial in Arlington Wednesday morning witnessed a rare sight. Someone was climbing one of the structure's three spires.

Peter Doran, a former Republican gubernatorial candidate for Virginia, was paying his first visit to the memorial on Wednesday morning when he spotted someone climbing the spire. He then posted the video of it on Twitter.

Doran learned from someone at the scene that a group of free climbers were scaling the memorial to clean it, which is something that happens twice a decade.
