“Waste Not – Want Not.” From November 1 – December 1, 2016, the Arlington
Food Assistance Center is sponsoring an exhibit in the main lobby of
Arlington Central Library (1015 North Quincy St.) highlighting the problems
of food waste and solutions to preventing it.
It is estimated that 2 million pounds of edible food are wasted every
second in the United States. The exhibit invites visitors to consider the
resources of water, fertilizer, land, and human labor that go into
producing food, as well as the food insecurity made worse by this waste of
resources. It highlights various ways visitors can help fight food waste in
our schools, our homes, and our communities.
The exhibit will conclude in a free panel discussion Thursday, December 1 on
“Solutions for Preventing Food Waste.” The discussion, held in the Central
Library Auditorium at 7 p.m., will feature Claudia Fabiano from the EPA,
Theresa Coffman from the Food Bus at Tuckahoe Elementary School, Regina
Northouse from the Food Recovery Network, and Kai Robertson, independent
sustainability advisor. Join us for refreshments and a cooking
demonstration at 6:30 p.m.
