Weather Causes Arlington Parks & Rec Cancellations, Indoor Moves Thursday
Arlington outdoor programs will be canceled or moved indoors Thursday due to extreme heat and storm chances.
ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County said all Parks & Recreation and partner outdoor programming at county outdoor facilities will be canceled or moved indoors between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday due to an Extreme Heat Warning.
The weather-related changes include league practices and games, according to the county notice. Arlington County said cancellations for outdoor programming will be communicated directly to program participants by email.
The Arlington announcement comes as Northern Virginia faces “record-challenging” heat and the chance of severe storms Thursday. A heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. for areas near and east of the Interstate 95 corridor, with highs likely reaching 95 degrees and heat index values up to 105, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered storms are possible Thursday afternoon and evening, with damaging wind gusts and spotty hail possible late in the day through late evening, likely between 3 and 11 p.m., forecasters said.
