ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington Public Schools has canceled all after-school and evening activities due to the winter storm expected to pass through the region on Friday afternoon, according to an alert posted on the APS website.

Cancellations include all extracurricular activities, games, team practices, field trips, adult education classes and programs taking place in schools or on school grounds.

Families with students in Extended Day are encourage to pick up their children by 4 p.m., although the program will remain open until 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia starting at 4 p.m. Friday, while a blizzard warning is in effect for the Eastern Shore of Virginia from Friday into Saturday.

Drivers should plan on slippery roads later Friday. "The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute," the NWS said.
