What's Open, Closed In Arlington For MLK Jr. Day 2020
Find out what offices are closed and services are affected by Monday's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday observance.

ARLINGTON, VA -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. forever shaped the American landscape as the most prominent leader of the civil rights movement. The memory of King, who was killed by an assassin's bullet in 1968, is honored on Monday, Jan. 20 (he was born Jan. 15) with a federal holiday.
Arlington County will pay tribute to King's legacy with a thoughtful evening of music, dance and spoken word on Sunday, Jan. 19, from 5-6:30 p.m., at Wakefield High School. The program will tell the story of four young student's from the Halls Hill neighborhood who became the first students to desegregate a public school in Virginia, when they entered Stratford Junior High School in 1959. Volunteer Arlington is hosting a countywide MLK Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 20, from 8:30 a.m.-12 noon. There will be many volunteer opportunities available, including service projects and training with local non-profits. This event is free but registration is required. But just what is open and what is closed in our area on MLK Day? Here's a quick breakdown to help you out.
- All federal offices are closed.
- Circuit Court, General District Court and Juveline & Domestic Relations Court are closed.
- DMV and DMV Select Offices are closed.
- Human Services Office is closed.
- All Arlington County libraries are closed.
- All Arlington County public schools are closed.
- Metered parking is not enforced.
- Permitting and Inspections Services Office is closed.
- Sheriff's Office is closed
- Treasurer's Office is closed.
Public Transportation

- ART – ART 41, 42, 45, 51, 55, 77 and 87 routes are operating on a Saturday schedule. No other ART routes will operate on Jan. 20 and the ART Customer Call Center will be closed. The ART Call Center will be closed Jan. 20.
- STAR – The STAR Call Center will be closed on Jan. 20 and standing order rides will be canceled. To schedule a trip for Jan. 20, call before holiday. The Call Center will be open on Sunday, Jan. 9, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Metrorail — The Metrorail system will be open Jan. 20, from 5 a.m. t0 11:30 p.m. Trains will be operating on a Saturday schedule, which means they will be leaving endpoint terminals every 12 minutes. Off-peak fares will be in effect all day and parking will be free at all Metrorail parking facilities. Scheduled track work will take place Jan. 20, on the Red Line.
- Metrobus — Buses will operate on a Saturday supplemental schedule. Some late-night (post-midnight trips will be cancelled on some routes. Riders are asked to check the timetable for their route for more details.
- MetroAccess will operating on normal hours.
