Woman Attacked in Broad Daylight While Walking Her Dog Near Pentagon Row: Report

Two men struck her in the face and ran off with her cell phone, police said.

A woman was attacked in broad daylight by two men while walking her dog near Pentagon Row, according to police and nearby property management.

Two men in their 20s approached a woman from behind and struck her in the face just after 1 p.m. in the 1400 block of S. Joyce Street, taking her cell phone and fleeing the scene, according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department.

"The first suspect is described as a black male in his twenties, wearing a black shirt, jeans, and a black backpack," the report states. "The second suspect is described as a black male in his twenties, wearing a white t-shirt and jeans."

Management at RiverHouse Apartments, the property nearest to the incident, sent an email to building residents stating that the woman had been walking her dog in Grace Murray Hopper Park in front of the building when the men attacked her.

The woman was not seriously injured but was "very shaken by this brazen & unusual act of violence," the email added.

The men escaped on foot to the Metro station, which is located at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City nearby.

The email noted that the men were captured on video, which was provided to police.

Arlington police advise people who are out and about to be aware of your surroundings, to walk with a friend if possible, to not listen to music or talk on the phone and to trust your instincts.
