Salvadoran Man With Prior Felony Conviction In PWC Sentenced For Illegal Reentry

Moises Osvaldo Sorto-Iraeta had been arrested numerous times in Loudoun and Prince William counties, officials said.

ASHBURN, VA — A Salvadoran man was sentenced to one year and four months in prison on Wednesday for illegally reentering the United States after being deported in 2017, federal officials said.

According to a release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, Moises Osvaldo Sorto-Iraeta, 31, was sentenced on April 15 for reentering the U.S. after being deported following his conviction for participating in an assault in Prince William County in 2016. He was sentenced to five years in prison at the time, but had his sentence suspended when he was deported.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office release says Sorto-Iraeta was arrested in Loudoun County in December 2023 for a number of charges related to an assault and convicted the following February on the charges of assault and battery and brandishing a firearm. He was then arrested again in Loudoun County on April 29, 2025, for possession of cocaine and was sentenced in October to 90 days in prison.

Verdict News reports that Sorto-Iraeta will be transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody for processing of his removal, and because he is still subject to a prior removal order, he won’t be entitled to a new removal hearing.
