Here's What To Know About Changes At Loudoun County Public Schools For 2026-2027

Some important policy changes will be implemented at Loudoun County public schools when the new school year starts this month.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA –Loudoun County Public Schools will begin the 2026-207 school year on August 17.

With the first day of classes at Loudoun County Public Schools rapidly approaching, Patch has put together a reminder of some policy changes affecting students this fall, including dress code changes, mobile app updates and staff news.

Updated Dress Code Mandates More Coverage

The Loudoun County School Board approved dress code changes at the end of June, mandating more coverage and banning clothing that intentionally reveals undergarments. Specifically, student attire must meet the following requirements:

Tops must cover the sides, mid-back and lower back, and extend to the waist, and feature a neckline that does not extend below the imaginary horizontal line connecting the armpits.

Bottoms must provide full coverage of the lower torso and buttocks.

One-piece outfits must meet the same coverage requirements.
Clothing must be non-transparent and cannot intentionally expose undergarments.

Hats or headwear must not obscure the face and hoods on hoodie sweatshirts must be worn down. (Head coverings and hairstyles with religious, cultural or ethnic significance are permitted.)
Closed-toe, closed-heel shoes are required for physical education.
Pajama tops and bottoms are allowed, provided they meet coverage requirements. Blankets and robes are not.

ParentVUE and StudentVUE Apps Must Be Updated

The two software applications that connect parents and students with the school system, ParentVUE and StudentVUE, have been updated. Parents and students using the apps on mobile devices will have to download new apps. Parents must update their information in the ParentVUE app before they can access class and bus schedules, which will be available on August 12.

According to LCPS, ParentVUE allows families to update student information and track grades, schedules, assignments and other communications. StudentVUE allows students to check their grades, view class schedules and track attendance in real time.

Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence Contract Extended Through 2030 School Year

The Loudoun County School Board voted in June to extend Superintendent Aaron Spence's contract through June 30, 2030, saying Spence's tenure has been marked by improvements in student achievement; expanded access to advanced coursework; reductions in chronic absenteeism; and increased feelings of belonging and trust reported by students, staff and families.

The decision to extend Spence's contract was announced a day after he testified before Congress and was grilled about the county's gender-inclusive policies.

Bell-To-Bell Device Restrictions Remain in Place

In January 2026, Loudoun County public schools began implementing new restrictions on the use of personal technology devices during the school day. Students in Loudoun County public schools may not use personal technology devices that connect to the internet from the start of the school day until the last bell. Students may only use technology issued by LCPS during the school day while on school property. Phones, smartwatches, fitness devices and other internet-connected technology must be turned off and stored away from bell to bell.
