
Marion Hayward Pontzer, 75, of Sterling, VA, died in her home March 5, 2011. Born in 1935 in Colon, Panama, to Vice Admiral John T. “Chick” Hayward and Leila Marion Hayward, Marion is survived by her siblings Shelley Klein, Victoria Hayward, Jennifer Bramhall and John Hayward.
Marion’s husband, Robert Friery Pontzer, died in 1981, and together they are survived by their seven children: Robert “Fritz” Pontzer, Stephanie Gilson, Suzanne Olmsted, Leila “Penny” Lucas, John Pontzer, Kristine Menefee and Jimmy Pontzer. Marion also is survived by 21 grandchildren, each one as cute and smart as can be.
Marion graduated from the Georgetown University School of Nursing in 1957, and retired from the Fairfax County Public Health Department in 2008. Thousands of people have had their hands held, their wounds treated and their bandages changed by her. Her strength, kindness, grace and calm will be greatly missed by those fortunate enough to have met or been raised by her.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 10, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle SE, in Leesburg.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 11, at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, Marion had requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
