Ashby Ponds Partners with Project Linus as "Blanketeers"

Residents, staff of Erickson Living retirement community create 66 blankets for Camp Good Grief

Ashburn, Virginia--A fun partnership at Ashby Ponds is making a big difference for children who could use a helping hand and smile.

On April 19, the Erickson Living Values Team and the Diversity & Inclusion Committee teamed up for a Community Outreach Day. Nearly 50 residents and employees used their talents to produce colorful handmade blankets to be distributed to local children.

The project officially supported Project Linus, a national non-profit organization whose mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need through the gifts of new handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”

Following the five-hour activity, Team Ashby Ponds produced 66 blankets to be collected as part of a campaign in May to help Camp Good Grief, a free camp for children who have suffered the loss of a loved one killed while serving our country in activity military duty such as a parent, sibling or guardian.

“We wanted to offer residents and employees an opportunity to give back to the greater community, and Project Linus was a perfect match for us,” stated Elisa Reiner, Trip Coordinator at Ashby Ponds and Co-Chair of the Erickson Living Values Committee. “The project was a fun team-building event. Everyone could contribute, and we’re proud of the opportunity to connect not only with each other but also with a meaningful program.”
