Back To School: Loudoun County's 2021-22 School Calendar

Parents in Ashburn and across Loudoun County can now mark the first day of school that is on the way later this summer.

ASHBURN, VA — Back-to-school planning has already begun in Ashburn and across Loudoun County, with calendars available to help parents prepare for the first day for Loudoun County Public Schools.

The first day of school for most students in Leesburg is Thursday, Aug. 26.

Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change as the coronavirus pandemic nears its year-and-a-half point. A mix of in-person, virtual and hybrid learning is still possible in Loudoun County.

The Loudoun County school system has not yet announced a mask policy for the upcoming school year. However, new guidance released by the CDC has recommended all students in K-12 settings wear a mask. Some school districts in northern Virginia, including Fairfax County Public Schools, have already updated their mask guidelines for the upcoming school year in accordance with CDC recommendations.

Here is the list of dates to know for this school year:

Loudoun County Public Schools

First Day: Thursday, Aug. 26

Fall Break: There will be no classes for students on Friday, Oct. 29 for a staff development day. Students will also not be in class on Monday, Nov. 1, Tuesday, Nov. 2, or Thursday, Nov. 4.

Thanksgiving Break: Wednesday, Nov. 24 through Friday, Nov. 26

Winter Break: Monday, Dec. 20 through Sunday, Jan. 2. Students return to class on Monday, Jan. 3.

Spring Break: Monday, April 11 through Friday, April 15.

Last Day: Wednesday, June 15.

Last school year, the Loudoun County school system was embroiled in several controversies that led to lawsuits and recall efforts. The school is currently being sued in relation to a policy towards transgender students, and an anti-racist equity initiative. Tension drew to a head in June, when a school board meeting was shut down and two people were arrested after unrest broke out during public comments.
