I’m not going to sugar coat it – if you want to live a fit and healthier life, you will have to make changes. And for most of us, change is hard. We get comfortable with how we live. Any change – big or small – takes us out of our comfort zone. Even someone who has a long-standing passion for living healthy has to make changes from time to time to remain inspired and committed. And for the record, I am not just talking about exercise. Living fit and sore means living the best life you can – so this is about family, career – YOU.
Earlier this year, I read an article written by an average, mainstream, suburban mom who made a decision to start getting fit and joined a local gym. As she began to work out there, she noticed that the staff and trainers continually showed lukewarm enthusiasm towards their clients - a globo-gym. I am sure you know what happened next -- she stopped working out there.
Her story really resonated with me. After reading it, I realized I too had to make a change. I had been doing the same fitness routine for a few years, the same trainer, and same place. It was fun and was something that helped me focus as I dealt with my husband’s cancer treatment. I give much credit to it as it ignited my passion for being fit. With that being said, I began to feel less than enthusiastic as I headed there each morning. As hard as it was to admit, I had stopped seeing results and the trainer I had built a relationship with was no longer meeting my needs. It was starting to become lukewarm.

But as I said, change is hard. If I found another place, would I like the people as much? Would they offer me the support and encouragement I am looking for? Would I achieve the results I want? How can I leave my trainer after all he has done for me?
Despite those questions and having mixed feelings about it all – I decided to leave. And you know what? I have experienced a renewed sense of commitment and excitement. Here I was, so busy thinking about all the negative things that could happen by making a change, I didn’t stop to consider all the good that could come from it. I have made huge progress since then fitness wise and I have not looked back.

The lesson I have learned is change should not be looked at as a bad thing. Sometimes when you shift your perspective, it can be something badly needed and incredibly beneficial.
